Is Modern Evangelicalism a Political Bastardized Christianity?

I don't really understand the Evangelical Christian political power grab fixation. It's idolatry in my educated assessment. Dominionism is about taking over a country and forcing religious law on a society, that's what is happening as we speak. Pastors who leave their first love, the love of Christ and church to try to climb the political power ladder are the saddest examples of this bastardized Christianity.

Jesus Christ rejected political power. The story of Satan tempting him with the kingdoms of the world was a political power offer. Christ rejected it. Christ was later recorded as rejecting political fame and glory again when the people expressed their desire for him to lead a revolution against the Roman occupiers. Yet here we are, still watching church leaders grab for political power even though Jesus was dead set against it. The Good News was not about taking over and forcing moral laws on people. Christ's kingdom is in the hearts of men, not in political office. Modern evangelicalism becomes a false religion when the primary focus is gaining political power. It's nothing new for sure, but it's certainly in the spotlight again and constantly bringing reproach to the name of Christ.
